As part of a continued commitment to environmental education, Laurel Springs School will participate in the Captain Planet Foundation’s Annual Benefit Gala on December 7, 2012. This year’s event will honor Sir Richard Branson and President Jimmy Carter with awards for their outstanding environmental stewardship. Laurel Springs School founder, Marilyn Mosley Gordanier, is a member of the Foundation’s Board of Directors. Attending the event with Ms. Mosley Gordanier will be Darby Carr (President of Laurel Springs School), Mary Maranville (Ventura County Agricultural Education), George Bernstein (CEO of Nobel Learning Communities), Jennifer Arnold (Founder of Canine Assistants Program), Gary Arnold (CEO of Canine Assistants), and a specially-selected Laurel Springs student and her parents.

The Captain Planet Foundation was established in 1991 in connection with the award-winning Captain Planet cartoon series (conceptualized by Ted Turner). The Foundation’s activities have involved almost one million children through a variety of sponsored activities and projects in all 50 states and in more than 20 countries.

Part of the founding mission of Laurel Springs School is a focus on environmental stewardship. Our students contribute to numerous activities that promote awareness of global environmental issues, including the Earth Day Conference,  the Clinton Global Initiative, and our series of virtual symposia, “Meetings with Remarkable Men & Women.” We are proud to be aligned with the Captain Planet Foundation’s vision of educating a new generation of children about how to care for our world.
